A total of 39 tests were reported taken with 1 confirmed case in Archer County according to the May 25 posting on the Texas Department of State Health Services (TxDSHS) website. On Wednesday, May 20, Vista Living Center had a team from the Texas Heath and Human Services Commission (HHSC) on site to test residents and staff. Governor Abbott directed HHSC to test 100% of residents and staff in Texas nursing homes. The results of the tests at Vista Living Center are not yet reflected on the TxDSHS website.

Press Officer, Kelli Weldon, for HHSC provided the following statement, “Texas HHSC has been closely monitoring long-term care facilities throughout the state to ensure they have up-to-date, clear information on addressing infectious diseases such as COVID-19. These facilities are required to report to HHSC when COVID-19 is confirmed in a resident, employee, or visitor. Nursing facilities are also required to report cases of COVID-19 to their local health authority (or to the Department of State Health Services, if there is no local health authority).”

Statewide there have been a total of 1527 fatalities due to COVID-19 as of May 25. Nursing home resident fatalities account for 568 of the deaths reported.
