Makenna Demers, a 2017 Holliday High School graduate, recently graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Musical Theatre from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
While at Holliday, in addition to band DeMers was involved in the theatre program, as well as the University Interscholastic League competing in One Act Play, Spelling, Prose Interpretation, where she received numerous awards; and was Valedictorian of the 2017 graduating class.
The 170-plus-year-old Conservatoire, located in the city center of Glasgow, is consistently ranked in the top 10 for Excellence in Performing Arts Education institutions. Worldwide auditions are held for potential students hoping to secure one of the 18 annual positions in the Musical Theatre program.
Once in, students study acting, singing, dance and music and are required to learn a musical instrument. DeMers chose to continue playing the oboe, which she played during her time at Holliday, along with lessons in piano and classical guitar.
DeMers will remain in the United Kingdom to pursue her master’s degree, having auditioned and been accepted into the Guildford School of Acting at the University of Surrey, located 30 minutes from London.
