Written this week by Chief Deputy Simon Dwyer during Sheriff Beesinger’s absence
The Sheriff’s Office received 128 Calls for Service during the past 7-day period ending Sunday, December 29th, 2019. On the day of this report there were 19 individuals incarcerated in the Archer County Jail consisting of 16 men and 3 women.
At around 4:30 AM in the early Monday morning of 12/23/2019, a man reported that he had spoken to another man at a gas station in Haskell who told him that his friend was kidnapped by the mafia. The reporting person said the other man then began following him in his vehicle. Archer County dispatch contacted Haskell dispatch and they advised that they had been dealing with reports on this man for most of the day. Haskell county officers had checked on the man and believed that he had mental health issues but was not a threat of immediate harm to himself or others.
Later, that evening, an Archer City woman reported that she believed that someone had attempted to burglarize her vehicle sometime the previous night. Officers met with her and confirmed that nothing was found to have been stolen.
At about 8:30 PM that same evening, a deputy saw a vehicle stopped on Highway 79 between Archer City and Olney. The deputy found that the motorists had a flat tire, so he assisted in changing the tire.
Shortly after 6:00 AM on Christmas Day, a Holliday resident called 911 to report that her 35-year-old boyfriend was unresponsive and not breathing. Deputies responded and found the man deceased. By order of the precinct #2 Justice of the Peace the body was sent to the Southwest Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas for autopsy. The Archer County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.
Later that afternoon at about 1:30 PM, an alarm company called to advise that an Archer City resident had notified them that she was having a nervous breakdown and needed medical assistance as well as law enforcement. Deputies and an ambulance arrived, and she was transported to the hospital.
At around 5:00, someone reported that a white Jeep ran off the road at Bowman and Highway 79 near Lakeside City. Deputies responded and found that the single vehicle had damaged a fence, but there were no apparent injuries. DPS worked the crash.
At approximately the same time, an Archer City police officer reported that he had spoken to an Archer City man who had told him that a woman was intoxicated and being physically violent. Deputies responded as well and after a brief investigation with the woman and another witness, the man was arrested for Assault Causing Bodily Injury and taken to jail.
That evening at about 11:30 PM a clerk at an Archer City convenience store reported that a teenaged boy had stolen some beer from the store. Deputies and Archer City police located the boy and stolen beer. The juvenile was taken into custody and issued citations for the offenses and then later released to his mother.
On 12/26/2019 at about 5:30 PM, a 70-year-old man was found unresponsive in his home in Archer City. Deputies and Archer City Police responded and found the man had no pulse and was not breathing. The Precinct #1 Justice of the Peace pronounced him deceased. Archer City Police are investigating.
At 6:30 PM the same day, a resident in the Bowman Community reported that a man had taken $700.00 from her for a repair job that he had never completed. Deputies took the report, but it is believed that the case is a civil dispute.
On 12/27/2019 at around 10:00 PM, the Precinct #4 Archer County Constable stopped a vehicle on US 281 near Windthorst and found the driver apparently intoxicated. The driver, a 25-year-old man, was arrest for Driving While Intoxicated and transported to jail.
Just two hours later, around midnight, a man reported that he had just hit a cow on US 281 just outside of Windthorst. The reporting person stated that he thought his vehicle was totaled and stuck on the highway. Deputies, DPS Troopers and the Windthorst Volunteer Fire Department responded to work the crash. There were no reported injuries, apart from the cow.
On 12/28/2019 at about 9:30 AM, Onstar contact dispatch to report a vehicle crash on Highway 114 near Megargel. It appeared that the vehicle hydroplaned and ran off the highway, but there were no reported injuries. DPS Troopers worked the crash.
That same day, a couple of hours later, another vehicle crash was reported on Highway 79, near Chalk Hill. One vehicle had apparently run off the road and through a fence. There were no reported injuries.
Later, at about 1:00 PM, an Archer City area woman called and reported that her boyfriend had assaulted her and had also committed other crimes. Deputies met with her and are investigating the alleged offenses.
Just after midnight on 12/29/2019, a Holliday man reported that his drunk ex-girlfriend came into his house and began taking paintings off the walls and messing up his house. Deputies arrived and found that there was no violence against any person, and that the altercation was all verbal. The intoxicated female was released to depart the scene with a sober person.
