According to Johnson he may have a stronger leg than Germany so honing accuracy will be the key to his success.

The Eagles will have 2 scrimmages. The first against Cisco in Graham at 11am on Friday August 16 and the second on Thursday, August 22 in Holliday at 7pm. The season opener is Friday night August 30 against the Iowa Park Hawks at 7:30 in Holliday. Johnson felt Iowa Park and Boyd, the first two games on the schedule, will be better teams than last year. Holliday plays in District 5, Region 2, Conference 3A, Division 2. Gunter again will be the team to beat in district, but Wichita Falls City View has the potential to be much better. The Eagles will host Gunter on October 11 on their home field at 7:30pm. Area football fans might want to mark the calendar for this, Ryan Hipol, returns to anchor the offensive line.  In some of the runaway wins last year he was able to play half the game.

Graduation last spring created some holes in the Eagle offense and defense. Quarterback and linebacker Jett Johnson along with the likes of linemen Jake Turner, Tanner Bayard, and Blake Lindemann will be hard to replace. Head Coach Frank Johnson is the first to acknowledge the search is on to fill some key positions saying, “On both sides of the ball we have to replace linemen.” He is also the first to say with the skill people he has and the work ethic his players display it will not be long before the Holliday Wing T and aggressive defense will be up to speed.

The Eagle coaching staff remains the same with one exception. Seth Oliver has been hired to replace Keith Nichols who retired at the end of last year. The other coaches are Kyle Tucker, Kent Thomas, Ryan Menasco, Clay Strealy, Derek Winn, Brad Blassingame, and Kevin Brown.

Johnson said it will take a little time for the personality of the team to emerge, but the Eagles have had one common denominator for the last four years as Johnson explained, “Play fast. That’s going to continue, we’ve got to play fast.” He added to that, “We play smashmouth Wing T football.”

Speed is the important factor. Running backs Connor Cox, Crea Jackson, Tristin Boyd, Seth Atchley,Ethan Twilligear and Austin Jones are blessed with speed so a little crease in the offensive line will be enough for them to shoot through. Coupled with the ability to break away once in the secondary, the Eagle running backs should rush for massive yardage and a lot of touchdowns. Senior Kase Patterson will line up at quarterback after getting a lot of playing time last year. His main job will be as a leader in the huddle and managing the pace of the game. A very good offensive lineman, Ryan Hipol, returns to anchor the offensive line. In some of the runaway wins last year he was able to play half the game.

Conner Hill will be called on to fill a linebacker spot. Johnson said of him, “Conner is a solid linebacker.” Last year’s place kicker Grayson Germany graduated, however, Logan Whitling, last year’s punter extraordinaire is back with the added duty of placekicker.
