Missy Latham takes reins of Megargel council

Missy Latham (left) is sworn in as the new Mayor of the city of Megargel on Tuesday, July 14, after a vote by the city council to appoint her to the position.

The Megargel City Council convened on Tuesday, July 14, in regular session and named Missy Latham as Mayor.

The meeting was called to order by Mayor Pro Tem, Barbara Jackson.

After approval of the prior meeting minutes, Jackson opened the floor for nomination for Mayor. Latham was the only nomination followed by a vote to appoint her as Mayor.

There was an objection to the process voiced by Jeanie Kellar, one of the four councilors present. After a brief executive session, the council reconvened and finalized the appointment of Latham.

In other business, a two-inch water line requested by Ray Land was approved, but his request to participate in the cost of construction was tabled for action at a future meeting. Also tabled was any action on the problem of loose


With Latham conducting the meeting after being sworn in, the council approved an arrangement for a website, a check “no hold” amendment to city policy and an expenditure to determine cost of repair on the water plant backup generator.

The new mayor and the councilors returned to executive session to discuss employee pay and health insurance.
