LaVerne Nicholas (Tuff) Schenk, 89, of Wildorado, passed away on Wednesday, June 3, 2020. Funeral mass was held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, June 6, 2020 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Vega with Father Mitch Przepiora, Celebrant and Father Grant Spinherne, Concelebrant officiating. A Rosary was held at 7:00 P.M. on Friday, June 5, 2020 at Brooks Chapel in Canyon. Arrangements were under direction by Brooks Funeral Directors of Canyon.
Tuff was born on September 17, 1930 in Scotland, Texas to Paul and Mary Kliegel Schenk. He grew up on a dairy and graduated from Subiaco Academy in Subiaco, Arkansas. He married Margaret Frische on December 26, 1950 in Scotland, Texas, and she preceded him in death on November 23, 2006.
Tuff was a farmer all his life. He was a member of Knights of Columbus, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Vega Men’s Club, and was a past president and board member of Dawn Coop.
Tuff loved fishing, hunting, and visiting different casinos. He also enjoyed gardening, tending to his pecan and apple trees, taking care of his cattle, and bread making. He loved small children and his grandchildren will especially remember how he loved to play games with his family, particularly Farkle and Sequence.
Tuff is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Margaret, two brothers, Dillard (Pickle) and Bill and Selma Schenk, and two brothers-in-law, Willie Hoff and Orville Anderle.
Survivors include four sons, Louis Schenk and wife, Roxanne of Canyon, Gene Schenk and wife, Ann of Wildorado, Kevin Schenk and wife, Denise of Umbarger, and Roger Schenk and wife, Roxane of Umbarger; three daughters, Patricia Lott and husband, Glenn of Columbia, MS, Dianna Donathan and husband, Kenny of Wildorado, and Mary Reinart and husband, Galen of Umbarger; 30 grandchildren; 64 great grandchildren; six siblings, Paul Schenk, Jr. and wife, Rosalie of Windthorst, Pauline Hoff of Windthorst, Shirley Anderle of Lindsay, Frank Schenk and wife, Ester of Scotland, Grady Schenk and wife, Cherry of Scotland and Kate Syrus and husband, Gary of Windthorst; and one sister-in-law, Bertha Mae Schenk of Scotland.
