There has been some confusion about the last “Brief from the Chief” article about golf carts and utility vehicles last printed in the Archer County News.

There is no City ordinance addressing this as law enforcement goes by State traffic laws. Chief Perron told the ACN that it is illegal to drive a golf cart  on city streets unless you are a licensed driver going to the golf course.  (See http://www.statutes.legis.state.tx.us/Docs/TN/htm/TN.551.htm#F) And then you must live within 2 miles of the golf course and drive only on residential streets.  Other utility vehicles such as gators are not legal.

This is becoming a safety issue in this town.

If you would like to address the City Council, you may do so in Public Comments at the next meeting on August 18th at 7:00 pm.  They cannot discuss it unless it is on the agenda, but you may comment. To have this placed on the agenda, it must be done by Friday, August 12th.
