Windthorst junior catcher Abby Brown and Archer City junior pitcher Victoria Rater both had outstanding seasons. Both are big reasons why the Trojanettes and Lady Cats battled in a Region I final series. Fittingly they are sharing the Most Valuable Player honor as Co-MVPs.

The Trojanettes won the Region after sharing the District Championship with the Lady Cats as they split in their two district games. Both starting lineups for Windthorst and Archer City are deserving of special honors based on the overall performance of both teams.

Abby Brown, in addition to a stellar job at catcher, hit .590 with 12 doubles, a home run, 22 runs scored, and 18 RBIs in district competition. A foul ball behind the plate was sure to be an out if Brown could get within diving distance of it. She homered three times in the postseason playoffs.

Victoria Rater stepped into the Co-MVP spot for her work both on the mound and in the batter’s box. In the ring she was 12-1 in District 8-2A with a 1.92 ERA. She struck out 86 batters in her 65 2/3 innings of work. Offensively she had a .535 average with 23 runs scored and 13 RBIs. Hitting second in the lineup she was often called on to execute bunt sacrifices to move her sister, leadoff hitter, Vanessa Rater, into scoring position. Those bunts often turned into base hits.

The Pitcher of the Year went to junior Trojanette pitcher Laynie Brown. Her ERA was 1.57 while posting an 8-1 record in district. In district competition she struck out 74 opposing batters while issuing only 9 walks in 49 innings. She was solid and steady handling her time in the ring with efficiency.

Lady Cat junior first baseman, Erika Guerra, batted .521 in district with 11 doubles to earn Offensive Player of the Year. She drove in 25 runs and scored 25 times with an on base percentage of .540. Her power at the plate made her a threat with the slap hitting Raters and Lindy Reid on base ahead of her.

Archer City freshman Maddie Lopez garnered Newcomer of the Year honors, handling her first varsity season with a .565 batting average with five homers, 24 runs and 23 RBIs in district action. She held down the corner at third base for the Lady Cats.

Windthorst’s Head Coach Alyson Deatherage was selected as Coach of the Year. Not only did she lead the Trojanettes to a share of the District 8-2A title she led her team to a Region I Championship.
