Junior quarterback Ty Bates scored six touchdowns and the Wildcats defense forced seven turnovers in a 60-7 rout of Haskell in Archer City’s season-opener on Friday, Sept. 4, at Wildcat Stadium.

Bates went 17-of-33 for 321 yards with four touchdowns through the air and added 12 rushes for 77 yards and another pair of scores on the ground. The junior combined for 398 of Archer City’s 486 yards of total offense.

Freshman Elijah Jackson toted the ball five times for 46 yards, including a 34 yard TD run early in the first half. Senior Justin Browning added 27 yards and a touchdown on five carries.

Junior John Machtolff led the Wildcats with 86 yards receiving, taking a screen pass from Bates to the house early in the first quarter. Junior Gage Gillespie added four catches for 83 yards while senior Carter Hilbers snared five passes for 78 yards and a score.

Defensively, senior Layne Briggs tallied 16 tackles to lead the defense while Hilbers (12), Jackson (11) and Bates (11) all finished with double-digit stops.

The Wildcats host Windthorst in their homecoming matchup on Friday, Sept. 11, for an all-Archer County showdown. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. at Wildcat Stadium.
