Football and volleyball seasons are just around the corner, but there is still unfinished business from last spring. Several Archer County baseball and softball players were named to All State teams. The Texas Sport Writers Association (TSWA), Texas Girls Coaches Association, and the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association all award special All State honors. Numerous Archer County players have been named.

Windthorst Trojan Nathan Bales was named by TSWA as first team designated hitter on the Class 2A squad. Having also been named All State in football he finishes a memorable senior year with high accolades in both sports. His teammate Cy Belcher was named third team at second base and Archer City Wildcat Conner Byrd made the third team at shortstop.

Bales batted .398 with 37 runs scored. He had 12 stolen bases with 30 RBI’s. Belcher batted .330 with 32 RBI’s, 26 runs. He was also named honorable mention as a pitcher. Other Trojans receiving honorable mention recognition were Sam McQuerry and Colton Bates.

Byrd finished his senior year batting .476 with 44 runs scored and 47 RBI’s doing double duty as a pitcher with 80 strikeouts.

The Holliday Eagles also landed two players on the elite TSWA list. Sophomore Connor Cox made the Class 3A second team as a designated hitter. His teammate Logan Whitling earned honorable mention as a catcher. Cox batted .427 with 26 RBI’s, 43 runs scored, and 15 stolen bases. Whitling batted .405 with 14 runs and 34 RBI’s.

Laynie Brown and Abby Brown went to the head of the class as pitcher and catcher on the TSWA softball team after an appearance in the State Tournament. They were both named first team. Laynie Brown had a season record in the ring of 27-6, a 1.41 ERA, and 251 strikeouts. Abby Brown at catcher batted .492 with 49 runs scored and 51 RBI’s

Archer City Lady Cats Victoria Rater and Lindy Reid were named honorable mention on the TSWA schedule, as was Trojanette Camryn Latham. The Browns and Rater were also named All State by the Texas Girls Coaches Association.

As student athletes one of the most important honors at the end of the season is a place on the Texas Girls Coaches Association as an All State Academic selection. In Class 3A Holliday’s Alli Curd and Ambri Harrigal made the list. Archer City’s Sam Clements made the list along with four Windthorst Trojanettes. The Windthorst Academic All State players were Claire Hemmi, Grace Hoegger, Mollee Kirk, and Blaire Schreiber.
