ARCHER CITY – The Wildcat Classic Basketball Tournament started last Thursday, December 5. Both the Boys and Girls Division had games through last Saturday evening. The 8 teams in the Boys Bracket were Haskell, Henrietta, Wichita Christian, Jacksboro, Holliday, Paradise, Iowa Park, and Archer City. Holliday and Iowa Park were playing without some of their players due to the football playoffs. Henrietta defeated Archer City in the Championship Game 54-46. Holliday won the Consolation Bracket with a win over Haskell 49-22
The Girls Division included Wichita Falls High School, Henrietta, Paradise, Wellington, Haskell, Holliday, and Archer City. The format in the girls competition was round robin with each team guaranteed four games. Both Haskell and Wellington won all four games. Archer City and Holliday won 2 and lost 2. Paradise and Wichita Falls High School won 1 and lost 3. Henrietta lost all four games.
The Archer City Lady Cats defeated Henrietta 47-24 last Thursday. On Friday they beat Wichita Falls High School 59-32, but later in the day fell to Haskell 57-52. On Saturday the Holliday Lady Eagles came from behind to defeat the Lady Cats 55-52.
The Holliday Lady Eagles lost in their first game last Thursday to Haskell 63-48. On Friday they lost to Wellington 53-41, but bounced back to win 2 games on Saturday. In a morning matchup they defeated Archer City 55-52 and later in the day they beat Paradise 50-29.
The Wildcats beat Haskell 61-42 on Thursday, but dropped a Thursday evening game to Iowa Park 38-36. The Wildcats advanced into the winner’s bracket due to Iowa Park’s football game on Friday evening. They beat Paradise 42-39 on Friday to advance to the Championship round. Henrietta won the tournament with a win over the Wildcats last Saturday night 54-46.
The Wildcat Classic program gave a “a big Thank You” to the Archer City High School Booster Club, Shad Hanna, Mark Hilbers, Craig Huseman, Juston Liles, and Mickey Mayo for providing the food and hospitality for the teams and coaches.
