The trees are going dormant now. At the nursery we have begun the yearly ritual of potting trees into larger containers. After we pot them we will hold them “not for sale,” until they have healed and grown new roots. This generally takes about 6 months before we can safely be assured of a full root mass at the point of sale. Meanwhile, from now until bud break we offer the general public overgrown trees with roots extending out of the drain holes. They do this once they find the rich compost that comes from adding mulch to our tree beds every fall/winter. Perfect growing medium. Full of worms… And beneficial microbes.
