Maintenance workers across county school districts keep campuses ready for return

As inches of snow fell across Archer County and with many stuck at home without water and power, the three Archer County school districts' campuses were being taken care of by maintenance workers so the schools would be ready to reopen on Monday, Feb. 22.

Archer County ranching families are a hardy breed. They deal with weather conditions on a regular basis to provide care for the livestock that provides a major part of the food supply in America. Last week’s snowfall and record breaking extreme cold were, hopefully, a once in a lifetime challenge.

Last week and even into this week, workers across the county have been struggling to cope with the effects of frozen pipes and water leaks. Archer City was hit the hardest in terms of water outages, with leak problems beginning in the early morning hours of Tuesday, Feb.

10 earn recognition on TSWA all-state team

Archer County saw 10 players earn recognition on the Texas Sportswriters Association Class 2A All-State team. The state champion Windthorst Trojans placed five on the squad while Archer City saw four players pick up accolades. Trojans head coach Chris Tackett shared Coach of the Year honors with Shiner’s Daniel Boedeker.
