Body Volleyball season has begun in Archer County and this weekend saw all three teams participate in tournaments hosted in Abilene and Burkburnett on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 14-15.

Body The Windthorst Trojans saw their first outside competition of the season as they faced off against the Quanah Indians in a scrimmage on Thursday, Aug. 13.

Body The Holliday Lady Eagles’ volleyball team kicked off their 2026 campaign with a win over Tolar on Monday, 3-1 (21-25, 25-20, 26-24, 23-19.) Holliday’s upperclassmen shined in the victory with senior Emma Ellis leading the way for what looks to be another impressive season.

Body The 2026-2027 high school sports season has officially begun as the volleyball and football teams from all three schools in the county began their yearly two-adays practices on Monday, Aug. 3.

Body As local fall sports commence preparations for their respective upcoming seasons, new rules and regulations may change how those preparations look.

Body Since I started this job in Nov. of 2023, I have witnessed some of the best games in high school sports. Archer County has some of the best athletes, coaches, and fans in the state, and as my time at Archer County News winds down, I’d like to reminisce on some of those games.

Body Football season is quickly approaching Archer County. In just a few weeks, the coaches and players at Archer City, Windthorst, and Holliday high schools will begin Two-A-Days to prepare for the first game the year on Friday, August 28.

Body For the first time in eight seasons, the Holliday Lady Eagles will be under the tutelage of a new head softball coach, former recruiting coordinator and kinesiology instructor at Texas A&M University-Texarkana Haley Colwell.
