Lady Cats beat Windthorst, take lead in District 9-2A race

Archer City took command of the District 9-2A race behind a 3-1 (25-16, 18-25, 25-22, 25-16) victory on the road Saturday at arch-rival Windthorst. The Lady Cats (24-11, 8-0) snapped the Trojanettes’ (24-11, 7-1) nine-game winning streak by winning their eighth-straight.

Neither side is able to rest on its laurels for too long, however, as the Lady Cats and Trojanettes meet Tuesday evening in Archer City.

Archer City’s Mallory Maxwell was elated following the win. The senior turned in a double-double for the Lady Cats with 12 kills, 11 digs and three aces.

Lady Cats sink Petrolia ahead of Windthorst showdown

Archer City (23-11, 7-0) wasn’t caught looking ahead to Saturday afternoon’s showdown as the Lady Cats hammered Petrolia, 25-13, 25-13, 25-6, for the 3-0 sweep.

Senior Mallory Maxwell was a force to be reckoned with in the middle, leading the charge with a game-high 15 kills while senior Chandler Clark added 11 kills and three aces from the outside. Senior Aspyn Huseman collected 20 digs while junior Kadence Huffman put up 12 on the back row. Senior Maddie Lopez handed out 22 dimes while Liles dished out 14 assists in the win.

Archer City girls take 9-2A team title; Belcher places first

The Archer City Lady Cats’ cross country team of Kassidy Marin, Rebecca Taggart, Kaydyn Ritchie, Malia Jones, Landri Payne and Jenny Smith won the District 9-2A championship on Wednesday, Oct. 13, in Seymour. Archer City edged out Olney 57-50 to bring home the district crown.
