January is School Board Recognition Month and Windthorst ISD is honored to celebrate its trustees for their dedication and commitment to the district’s schools and students. “Our school board members are selfless volunteers who spend long hours working to ensure all of our students have the opportunity to learn and grow,” district superintendent William Paul said.

Everything is not a tomato. I say that a lot and write it down often. When I see folks attempting to “protect” our native plant species from a freeze I shudder in disbelief. What are they thinking? That this tree/shrub/flowering plant needs something wrapped around it or placed over it? In the 10,000 years or so these plants have been here have they not experienced temperatures below 32(f) every winter? Yes, we should and will do this for a tomato. So what about those tomatoes? The Sheriff’s Office received 153 calls for service this past week. As this report is being written there are 20 inmates and four being female in the Archer County Jail.

The Windthorst Spartans 8th grade boys are 6-1 on the season with wins vs. Olney (45-18), Archer City (44-6) and Quanah (50-26). The 8th grade was loss came against Lipan (57-31). The 7th grade boys are 3-4 with wins against Olney (32-23) and Archer City (32-15) and losses to Quanah (28-23) and Lipan (35-25). The Combo B Team is 3-0-1 with a tie against Olney (16-16) and a win over Archer City. All groups are improving throughout the season.
