The Texas Education Agency released the A-F accountability ratings for districts and campuses this month with all three Archer County school districts receiving a grade of an A. The state accountability ratings are based on three areas of performance: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps.
The Archer City city council continued discussions about the future of the Archer City Emergency Medical Services during its meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 30.
Seven Archer County nonprofit organizations are participating in the 24-county area fundraising program Texoma Gives, which kicks off at 6 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 8, with donations able to be given before the event.
The Sheriff’s Office received 127 calls for service this past week. As this report is being written there are 32 inmates and 4 being female in the Archer County Jail. On Tuesday, dispatch received a call of an accident on Hwy. 79 north of Archer City. The caller stated that a car hit a hog and that the hog was still alive. The caller asked for a deputy to come out and put the hog down. As deputies were in route another car hit and killed the hog. Both vehicles were damaged in the accident but no injuries were reported. On Wednesday, deputies were called to the north end of the county in reference to a man on someone’s back porch. As deputies arrived it was discovered that the man was having a mental health crisis and was confused as to where he was. The family was notified and the man is now getting some treatment.
