Windthorst and Sterling City met Thursday night in a playoff showdown between programs just two seasons removed from a state championship. Nevermind the fact Sterling City’s state title was won in the six-man ranks.

Holliday got a bit of a scare in its area round meeting with Scurry-Rosser on Thursday in Weatherford. A slow start by the offense and several big plays from the Wildcats had the Eagles staring down the barrel of a 10-0 deficit early in the second quarter.

Just call it Titletown.

Windthorst became the state’s all-time winningest program, bringing home state title No. 14 following a back-and-forth five set (25-12, 20-25, 25-23, 14-25, 15-12) win over Lindsay (39-10) in Friday’s title game matchup.
