Our Psalm today, penned after the nation of Israel had been overthrown and the city of Jerusalem destroyed, links us to the people of Israel after they were taken into bondage and deported to Babylon, a foreign land.

Dorothy Faye Ingle Williams, age 85, of Wichita Falls, Texas, formerly of Lake Arrowhead, passed away Tuesday morning, July 23, 2024 in Hospice of Wichita Falls. Graveside services were held in the Archer City Cemetery under the direction of Aulds Funeral Home of Archer City.

Over a span of 4 days, 30 4-H members from across the state of Texas attended the Texas 4-H Council Training. Two elected representatives from each of the 12 4-H districts, plus 6 at-large delegates, were present.

Archer County softball and baseball players received more All-State nominations over the last few weeks, this time from the Texas Sports Writers Association. These nominations should come as no surprise as all three teams in the county displayed several high-level athletes this season.

The Sheriff’s Office received 420 calls for service these past two weeks. As this report is being written there are 23 inmates 4 being female in the Archer County Jail.

The Archer City Council approved the resignation of council woman Debra Haehn and named her replacement during its meeting on Monday, July 29. Haehn, who had served on city council for 15 years, said she thought it was time for a new member to be on city council as she takes a board position on the newly formed Archer Ambulance Fund.

The Archer County Commissioner’s Court discussed elected officials salaries and county pct. 5 fund during their budget workshop on Thursday, July 25.

Larry McMurtry called her “The Last American Cowgirl,” a lofty distinction that will forever set Archer City’s Frances Eileen Lane, better known as “Jackie,” apart from Texas’ illustrious breed of horsewomen.
