Wildcats season ends with loss to defending champs

It was a true David versus Goliath tale as the Archer City Wildcats battled the back-to-back defending state champions Albany Lions in the Area playoff round on Thursday, Nov. 21 at Newton Field in Graham. Despite a solid effort by the Wildcats, the Lions proved why they were defending champs, beating Archer City 48-14.

Modeled after such competitions as Iron Chef and Chopped, teams of 4-H members create a dish using only pre-assigned ingredients. From these ingredients, 4-H members must identify, prepare and the present information related to the serving size, nutritional value, and cost of the dish.

The town’s regular doctor was offended by that and decided to expose the farmer as a fraud, so he went to the farmer’s office and said, “Doc, I seem to have lost my ability to taste. Can you cure me?”

Trojans comeback stops Lindsay's upset bid

For the second year in a row, the Windthorst Trojans faced off against the Lindsay Knights in the playoffs, in order to determine who would move on and continue their season into the Thanksgiving break. The Trojans won by a commanding 55-21the last time these two teams me, but this time, the Knights were much better prepared for their Area playoff round clash on Friday, Nov. 22 at Yellow Jacket Stadium in Boyd.

Hamill runs roughshod over Blue Ridge

On Friday, Nov. 22 at Porcupine Stadium in Springtown, the Holliday Eagles and the Blue Ridge Tigers faced off in of the most heart-pounding, anxiety- inducing, fever-pitch playoff games in recent memory. The Area round game featured everything a fan could ask for, hard hits, bruising runs, stunning catches, and last-second excitement fit for the silver- screen.

Ruby Parish Brown of Graham, Texas passed away at home Nov. 23, 2024. A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 26, at Holliday Cemetery in Holliday with Rev. J. Bryan Patrick officiating. A family visitation proceeding the procession to the graveside will be at Morrison Funeral Home Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2024 from 1 -1:30 p.m. and a memorial service will be scheduled at a later time at First United Methodist Church of Graham. Arrangements are under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home in Graham.

With volleyball season finally coming to an end, Archer City, Holliday, and Windthorst all kicked off their varsity girls’ basketball season these last two weeks. Archer City 36 Holliday 33 The Archer City Lady Cats opened their season with a home-game against the Holliday Lady Eagles on Monday, Nov.
