ACISD admin speaks on award recognition
Archer City ISD administration recognized the hard work of its staff, students and community following last week’s announcement that Archer City Elementary School will be honored as a 2024 National Blue Ribbon School.
U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona recognized Archer City Elementary School as one of the 356 schools of the 2024 cohort of National Blue Ribbon Schools. This prestigious recognition highlights schools that excel in academic performance or make significant strides in closing achievement gaps among different student groups.
“This award is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and collaborative efforts of our entire school community,” Archer City Elementary Principal Amy Huseman said. “From our exceptional teachers and staff to our motivated students and supportive parents, each and every individual has played a crucial role in our success.”
Cardona said the 2024 National Blue Ribbon Schools showcase effective teaching methods and offer robust professional development for their staff. Data-driven instruction is a hallmark, and there is a concerted effort to ensure every student succeeds. Collaboration among families, communities, and educators is a key component of their success.
“I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to our teachers for their unwavering commitment to providing high-quality education and support to all students, regardless of their background or circumstances. Your dedication to closing the achievement gaps and fostering a culture of excellence has not gone unnoticed,” Huseman said.” I also want to acknowledge our students for their perseverance, hard work, and determination to excel academically. Your passion for learning and willingness to challenge yourselves have truly set you apart as high achievers.
Lastly, I want to thank our parents and community members for their continuous support and belief in our school's mission and vision. Your partnership and involvement have been instrumental in creating a positive and nurturing learning environment for our students.”
A National Blue Ribbon School award flag displayed in a school’s entryway or on a flagpole is a widely recognized emblem of exceptional teaching and learning. These schools serve as models of effective and innovative practices for educators across the nation.
The Department of Education recognizes all schools based on student performance data including assessment results, student subgroup performance and graduation rates. Schools are recognized in both or either of two performance categories: Exemplary High Performing Schools: These schools are among the top performers in their state as measured by state assessments or nationally normed tests.
Exemplary Achievement Gap Closing Schools: These schools excel in narrowing achievement gaps between different student groups and the overall student body.
Archer City Elementary School was in an even more prestigious group as one of the few to be recognized on both fronts.
“The atmosphere for learning was obvious to me the minute I got to Archer City. It is an honor and a privilege to be part of Archer City ISD,” Superintendent Jon Hartgraves said. “The National Blue Ribbon Schools designation is simply a confirmation of the great things that I see happening every day.”
Each nominated school submitted a comprehensive application detailing its school culture, programs, assessments, instructional practices, professional development, leadership, family, and community involvement.
“Receiving the National Blue Ribbon School award is a tremendous honor and a reflection of the collective efforts of our entire school community,” Huseman said. “Let this award serve as a reminder of what we can achieve when we work together towards a common goal. '
