The city of Windthorst, Windthorst ISD and the Archer County Community are mourning the loss of an 18-year-old student.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Kaybree Coleman died from a result of her injuries during a three-vehicle wreck near the Dollar General on U.S. 281 in Windthorst at 12:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Coleman was driving north on U.S. 281 in a 2019 Nissan Kicks and was slowing to make a left hand turn when the Nissan was struck from behind by a 2020 Ford F250 which failed to control its speed. The F250 was driven by Florencio Ramirez Garcia, 65, of Graham.
The rear-end crash caused the Nissan to be spun into oncoming traffic and was struck by a 2014 Chevrolet Malibu that was traveling southbound.
Coleman was transported to United Regional Healthcare System where she was pronounced dead. The crash remains under investigation by DPS.

“Windthorst ISD is deeply saddened to receive news of the death of one our students,” Superintendent Jason Nolan released in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to all the family and loved ones.”
Windthorst and Archer City High Schools announced it had cancelled the scheduled volleyball game between the two schools for Friday afternoon with reschedule date of 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27.
Prior to the Windthorst-Archer City football game on Friday, Oct. 20, the two teams and community joined in prayer for the Coleman family.

Constable Pct. 2 Donald Stevens announced that the Law Enforcement community of Archer County would hold a lunch benefit for the family from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28.

“Archer County Deputy Justin Coleman tragically lost his daughter in an automobile accident Oct. 20, 2023,” Stevens said. “We are asking for the public’s help and support by coming out and making a donation to the Coleman family. Minimum $5 donation amount in return will get the choice of a hamburger or hotdog, chips, drink, and a dessert.”

All proceeds from the benefit will be given directly to the Coleman family to help them offset any funeral or other financial costs the family may need assistance with during this time. The drive-thru benefit will be held at the Archer County Sheriff’s Office, located at 100 Law Enforcement Way, Archer City, Tx, 76351.

For those who cannot attend but wish to donate, they can do so by donating on GoFundMe at www.gofundme.com/f/kaybree-ann-coleman.

Coleman’s funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 25, in the Archer City High School Gym. Both Windthorst ISD and Archer City ISD canceled school on the day to allow students and staff to attend the services.
