Landon Davis is set to Depart from the Archer County News by summer's end.
Body

When I graduated from Tarleton State University, I did not expect my first “real” job to be as a reporter for a newspaper. I had taken several writing courses related to the newspaper and media industry, but I was still extremely nervous about taking such an important position without any real-world experience, outside of a few college courses.

I’ll never forget my first game I covered. It was Nov. 28, 2023 when the Archer City Wildcats and Lady Cats travelled to Midway in one of the first few games of that basketball season.

With my camera in hand, anxiety consumed me. Although I was an avid sports enjoyer, and even a player a long time ago, I still had my doubts. “Where do I stand for pictures? How do I stat the game correctly? Who do I talk to after the game? What do I even say?” All were thoughts that flooded my mind.

Both teams won in blowout fashion. I didn’t interview anyone out of fear of messing up and my pictures weren’t all that great, but I knew from right then and there I was going to love my job.

Since then, I have covered countless sporting events. From football, basketball, baseball, softball, track and field, and even tennis, Archer County News has allowed me to travel all across the state to cover the endless amount of athletic talent that flows through the area.

The community opened their arms to me. The athletes, coaches, parents, grandparents, aunts, and uncles, brothers and sisters; all welcomed me at every sporting event, community gathering, and everything in-between.

Although my time at Archer County News was short, it has been one of the most memorable experiences in my life. Being from a small town myself, I felt right at home in the Archer County community.

This summer will be my last few months at Archer County News as I begin another chapter of my life in Fort Worth. I will never forget my time at this great newspaper.

The work environment created by the owner Dan, my boss Nathan, our office manager Callie, our sales rep Vanessa, and former employees Jerry, Barbara, and Jenny helped build friendships that will last the rest of my life.

I have learned so much from each of them, and have grown so much in my work as well as my personal life that I will never be able to repay them for their priceless knowledge.

To everyone who supported me in my time at Archer County News, I am eternally grateful. I will cherish the memories I made here for the rest of my life. Thank you for letting me be apart of such a wonderful community.
