Out of over 1,300 nominations, Windthorst High School math teacher J.J. Belcher was selected as the Red River Best Chevy Dealers Teacher of the Year.

Nominations came from students, fellow teachers and administrators. Her nomination included comments such as, “She follows the golden rule and knows how to make math fun with cool problems.”

“She always reaches out to each student to find the positive no matter what challenges they have. Mrs. Belcher is simply one in a million.” WISD Superintendent Lonnie Hise said. “J.J. deserves all the accolades she receives. She is an outstanding person and the best math teacher I know.”

Students, fellow teachers, administrators and friends assembled Friday, Aug. 21, in the foyer of Windthorst High School. They were in agreement with one of the nomination comments, “We need more Mrs. Belchers in the world.”

Red River Best Chevy Dealers was represented by Gene Klinkerman, of FourStars Auto Ranch, and Brad Lawson with Herb Easley Motors. Klinkerman made the official presentation of a $1,000 check.

“I’m grateful to be a teacher. I’m thankful for over 22 years of teaching incredible students. Eighteen of
them have been right here at Windthorst High School,” Belcher remarked while accepting the award. “We fell in love with this community and its school. For every student who has crossed my classroom I will be forever grateful. Thank you to 4-Star Auto Ranch for investing in teachers.”
