Organization raises funds to feed Holliday families
The Holliday Senior Citizens Organization is raising funds this year with a Thanksgiving meal and smoked ham sales.
The organization uses guidelines established by the Wichita Falls Area Food Bank to provide free meals to qualifying low-income families. City secretary Gerri Ayers reports this number has been on the rise in recent years.
“We want to make sure that everyone in town gets a meal,” she said.
These fundraisers help them meet that goal.
The Thanksgiving meal is Nov. 19 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Patrons may drive up and requet a carry-out meal of turkey and dressing in return for a donation. They are not acceepting call-in orders.
The organization is also selling smoked hams through Nov. 22 to benefit the Meals on Wheels program.
Those who would like to order a 10-11 pound smoked ham can do so by calling 940-636-0237 until that date; however, Secretary Ayers is encouraging people to order early. Due to a nation-wide shortage, there are a limited number of hams available this year.
Ham orders may be picked up from Lynn and Sharon Ayers at 103 Ford Rd. on Nov. 24 from 5 to 8 p.m.
