Body

Carroll Laverne Hill was born Jan. 16, 1935 to Loyd and Mildred Geist in Alva, Okla.

They lived on a farm west of Aline, OK and Carroll attended grade school there until about the 4th grade. They then moved to Cleo Springs, Okla. where she graduated in 1957.

During her sixth-grade year she contracted Polio and spent several weeks in the hospital but recovered from that with no issues. While growing up she had many responsibilities on the farm, taking care of 13 milk cows, several hogs, cows and chickens, along with helping grandma at the house.

After graduating she met Paul who was working for the railroad in Cleo Springs.

On Jan. 5, 1958 Carroll and Paul married. In 1959 they had their first child, Greg, then in 1962 they brought home their second son, Travis and in 1969 a third son, Jason was born.

They lived in Caldwell until 1989 when Paul was transferred to St. Louis. They stayed there until his retirement and then moved to Archer City in 2001.

Carroll loved sports. She never missed a ballgame, cross country, track meet or a Rodeo that her boys participated in. While in Archer City, Carroll loved watching the grandkids at all their activities and going to Rodeos with Travis and Joyce. Going to breakfast every morning was a must so Carroll could catch up on the gossip of the day. Carroll loved to cook and she made the best fried chicken and pumpkin pies. She also made awesome peanut brittle that never lasted long. All the family came to expect pumpkin pie and peanut brittle during the holidays and Carroll was happy to oblige.

Carroll cared about her family and friends and was always helping someone in need. She loved her grandkids and great grandkids and looked forward to seeing them when they visited.

One of the highlights of her life was meeting Garth Brooks. While in St. Louis she had a close friend who was Garth’s babysitter when he was young. When Garth came to St. Louis several of the ladies went to the concert and Garth invited them on the bus and signed a picture for everyone. She was very proud of that picture.

Carroll passed away Sunday, Jan. 30, at Wichita Falls. She was 84 years old. Carroll was preceded in death by her parents, Loyd and Mildred Geist, husband Paul, and brother, George Geist.

She is survived by her three sons; Greg of Caldwell, Kan., Travis and wife Joyce of Archer City, Jason of Scottsdale, Ariz.; grandchildren, Kasha Hill Moody and husband Josh of Weatherford, Latigo Hill and wife Taylor of Wichita Falls; great grandchildren; Shaelyn, Laiken, Lainey, Blakeley and Brooks Moody of Weatherford; brother Loyd Geist and wife Sharon of Wichita, Kan.
