The Trojanettes ran away with the district 9-2A meet last year scoring 191 team points, 58 points better than second place Quanah.

The good news for the Trojanettes is the district championship team returns practically everyone. That spells trouble for the remaining district teams Quanah, Seymour, Archer City, Olney, and Petrolia.

Windthorst saw six individuals crowned champions at district last year; Saige Anderson (800, 300 Hurdles), Cameron Belcher (1600), Annikah Frank (100 Hurdles, Long Jump) and the 4x400 Relay team of Ciarra Veitenheimer, Belcher, Anderson and Frank. They will all be back for the 2022 campaign.

Belcher and Anderson advanced to the State Track Meet last spring. Anderson was sixth at state in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 47.8. Belcher qualified for state in the 1600 meter run with a time of 5:32.

Four other Regional Qualifiers last year will be pushing for a shot at the state meet this year. They are Annikah Frank - 3rd at regionals in 100 meter hurdles 15.97; Bree Kirk - regional qualifier in long jump, triple jump, and 100 meter dash; Ciarra Veitenheimer-regional qualifier in the mile relay with alternates Abby Schroeder and Rylee Wolf.

If those returning are not enough to stage a repeat of last year, Head Track Coach Heather Stark reported a top newcomer. Gabby Hoegger placed first in the shot put and discus in Windthorst earlier in the year.

Stark said, “We will run March 24 at City View, March 31 at Archer City, and then the district meet will be April 8 at Petrolia.”

The 2022 Track and Field State Meet for Class 2A will be Friday, May 13. There should be several Trojanettes in the field when the opening gun goes up.
