McLemore shines for Trojans
“I just want to be better than I was yesterday,” Windthorst senior Landon McLemore said. “I just try to be the best Trojan that I can be.”
A three-year varsity letterman, McLemore only wants to do one thing in his final year with the Blue and White: improve. His goal is to better himself every day not only as a player but as a teammate and friend.
“My goals for the coming season is to get better every game. I want to look across the field and just know that we’re all out there getting better day after day. I try and be a leader in the locker room and bring all my teammates together. We’ve got a great coaching staff and a great group of guys. If we get better game-by-game I think we’ll have a pretty long season. ”
Knowing it’s his final season, McLemore knows he has to leave everything on the field.
“It’s pretty sad knowing it’s my last year but I get one last hoorah. I’m going to go out there and give it everything I have and just play the game that I love.”
Last year as a junior the Trojans wide receiver made 17 catches for 138 yards and a touchdown.
“Each year he’s gotten a little more involved in the whole team,” Windthorst head coach Chris Tackett said. “He’s a senior. He’s played in some big games. That goes a long way for kids like that. He hasn’t shied away from big moments. I enjoy watching him play.”
An all-around student at Windthorst, McLemore is involved in just about everything in Trojanland, from football to FFA.
As expected, McLemore’s favorite high school memory revolves around the Trojans’ state championship run in 2020, though not in the way many might expect.
“It’s always going to be the state championship,” the senior said. “People always think it’s going to be the actual game but it’s more of the relationships you build and the teammates you have. Being able to build that camaraderie on bus rides and in the locker room is special.”
When his playing career is over, he wants to be remembered as a good friend.
“You always want to be a good athlete but I’d rather be remembered as a good teammate and a good leader. You want to be the guy that everyone in the locker room can come talk to. Someone that everyone can trust and lean on.”
Upon graduation, McLemore plans on attending Texas A&M and majoring in engineering or medical science.
