Windthorst ISD names Nolan as lone finalist for Superintendent position
Body

The Windthorst ISD School Board named Burkburnett High School Principal Jason Nolan as the district’s lone finalist for its superintendent position during a special called board meeting on Thursday, July 6.

Nolan comes to Windthorst ISD with 19 years of experience. He started as an eighthgrade history teacher, he then became a 5th and 6th grade assistant principal before moving up to a high school assistant principal with Royse City ISD. He then took an elementary school principal job with Burkburnett ISD for four years before serving as the high school principal for the previous two years.

Nolan has been married to his wife, Elizabeth, for 30 years. The couple has four children, all of them are out of high school.

“My wife and I were actually married here in Windthorst,” Nolan said. “The district is the size that I have always been attracted to, the makeup of the community and the values of the community really drew me in. Talking to the school board and other people around the area made me feel like this district is the best fit for me not only professionally but personally.'

Ted West will continue to serve as interim superintendent until Nolan is officially hired.

Windthorst ISD Board President Craig Anderle said the district, through the help of TEA Region 9, had 22 applicants. Of the 22 applicants, the school board interviewed six.

'In addition to someone who is knowledgeable about the inner workings of a school district and the functions of a superintendent, we were looking for a candidate who will be involved and visible in the community,' Anderle said. 'We need a leader that will lead by example and be able to unite the district to work towards student-centered goals. The dynamics of our school have changed somewhat in recent years with increase in student transfers, so we wanted someone who will help us continue to adjust to the changing needs of the entire student population.'

Anderle added he felt Nolan's genuine care for people, especially students, made him stand out from other applicants.

'We feel his previous work experience has prepared him to step into the superintendent role and he is very well respected by the people he has led in the past.' The board president said.

The school board will meet on July 31 to officially hire Nolan as the superintendent. The district must wait 21 days after naming Nolan as the lone finalist per Texas Government Code Section 55.2126.
