The Archer City Council approved the renewal of its contract with American Medical Response for another year during its meeting on Thursday, Aug. 22.

The council voted to renew the contract after it elected to not seek new bids for the service operations during its July meeting.

“If you do go out for request for proposals, I can’t make that promise at the point,” AMR’s Pete Wolf said in the July council meeting. “We will have to go back through the books and reconfigure everything. It may come in higher, it may come in lower.”

The council waited to approve renewing the contract for another year at the same price of $500,000 per year until the county agreed to continue splitting the cost with the city.

The Archer County Commissioner’s Court agreed to continue splitting the costs in its Aug. 12 meeting.

“This is basically a duplicate of last year,” Archer City Ambulance Liaison Jake Truette said during the Commissioner’s Court meeting. “There is a line item in last year’s contract with AMR for the continuation of this service for an additional year at the same price. (…) The city agreed to that as a budget item for next year but that is contingent on the partnership with the county doing the 50/50 split.”

Truette will continue moving the process forward on creating a 501c3 nonprofit to raise funds for an EMS provider to offer ambulance services to Archer City and portions of Archer County. The ambulance liaison said the initial board of the Archer Ambulance Fund consists of himself, Debra Haehn, Fern Starns, Beth Ann Oswald and Missy Hoegger. They are still working to identify additional board members or community advocates.

The approved $500,000 contract with AMR will be for the term of Nov. 1, 2024 through Oct. 31, 2025.
