Alma Berend Pennartz, age 96, of Windthorst, passed away Sunday, Dec. 19, 2021, in Burkburnet.

Rosary and Vigil service was held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 22, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Windthorst. Funeral Mass will be celebrated immediately following with Rev. Michael Moloney, Pastor of St. Mary’s and St. Boniface Catholic Church, officiating. Interment followed in St. Mary’s Cemetery under the direction of Aulds Funeral Home.

Alma was born Oct. 9, 1925, in Windthorst to the late Anton Berend and El eanor Wachsman Berend. She attended school in Windthorst until the tenth grade when she began working on the family dairy farm.

Alma married O.G. “Guy” Pennartz on May 19, 1947, in Windthorst. He preceded her in death on Sept. 20, 1981.

She was the owner and operator of Guy’s Place Package Store for over thirty-eight years, retiring in 1999. Alma was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Windthorst where she was a longtime member and past president of the Christian Mothers Society.

Survivors include two sons, Melvin Pennartz and wife, Clara of Ragley, Louisiana and Sammy Pennartz and wife, Lupe of Windthorst; six daughters, Phyllis Elmore and husband, Charles of Little Elm, Cherilyn Mezzetti of San Antonio, Sylvia Cardinal and husband, Phil of Iowa Park, Edithann Earle and husband, David of Athens, Texas, Eleanor McCurrin and husband, Terry of

Lake Arrowhead, and Melissa Graves and husband, Ricky of Archer City; her daughter-in-law, Darlene Pennartz; three sisters, Mildred Pennartz and Margaret Schroeder, both of Windthorst, and Eleanor Pechacek of Las Vegas; five brothers, Harold Berend of Marienthal, Kan., James Berend of Windthorst, Anton Berend of Vanita, Okla., Martin Berend of Oklahoma City, and George Wray of San Antonio; twenty-one grandchildren; thirty-nine great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by three children, Guy William Pennartz, Catherine Pennartz and Clifford Pennartz; three grandchildren, Glen Pennartz, Dillon Pennartz and Kyle McCurrin; son-in-law, Patrick Mezzetti; and three brothers, Manuel Berend, Emery Berend and Jerome Berend.
