Perry Bryan Wheeler, age 83, of Archer City, passed away Thursday, May 16, 2024, in Hamilton Hospital in Olney.

Services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 20, at the First Baptist Church of Archer City with Roger Deerinwater of Archer City officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Aulds Funeral Home of Archer City.

The family received friends from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. Sunday, May 19, at Aulds Funeral Home of Archer City.

Perry was born Feb. 4, 1941 in Wichita Falls to the late Delbert Blaine Wheeler and Opal Dovie Henson Wheeler. He graduated from Valley View Independent School District in 1960, where he was a standout athlete.

He married the love of his life, Lillian Huffman on June 9, 1962 in Archer City.

Perry work as a roustabout. He then worked as a cowboy for the Bridwell River Ranch, Muleshoe Cattle Company and A.R. Dillard Cattle Company for many years.

Perry was a Baptist. He loved to visit with his friends, tell stories and spend time with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Lillian of Archer City; three daughters, Melonie Andrews and husband, Matt of Archer City, Kimbra York and husband, Dan of Archer City, and Sherry Smajstrla and husband, John of Seymour; three grandchildren, Melissa Williams and husband, Stanley of Archer City, Kelce Smajstrla and fiancé, Justin Tipton of Wichita Falls, Hunter York and wife, Bethany of Archer City; three great-grandchildren, Jaxson Smith, Dylan and Caroline Williams; nephew, Darrell Robertson and wife, Shawnna of Wichita Falls; aunt, Maxine Henson of Iowa Park; sisters-in-law, Sandra Huffman of Northern Archer County, Nita Lou Lewis and husband, Lynn and George Huffman and wife, Loyce, all of Archer City; and many nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by his grandparents John & Artie Henson, one sister, Darla Wheeler Morton; mother- in-law Inez Huffman, two brothers-in-law, Delbert Huffman and Boe Wood; one sister-inlaw, Geneva Wood.

Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Bob Benton, Jerry Bolton, Stephen Huffman, Gerald Mobley, Jerry Morrison and Darrell Robertson.

The family would like to thank the staff at Hamilton Hospital and Dr. Purdy for all the love and care shown to Perry and the family.
