Rita Jean Moer Luig, age 68, of Holliday, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2023, at her Archer County residence.

Vigil service and rosary were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 12, at Aulds Funeral Home in Archer City. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 13, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Windthorst with Reverend Michael Moloney, OFS, Pastor of St. Mary’s and St. Boniface Catholic Church, officiating. Interment followed in St. Mary’s Cemetery under the direction of Aulds Funeral Home of Archer City.

Rita was born March 3, 1955 in Wichita Falls to the late Frances Bernard “Frank” Moer and Kathleen Annie Schreiber Moer. She graduated from Windthorst High School in 1973.

She married Perry Luig on Feb. 7, 1976, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Windthorst.

Rita worked as a dental assistant prior to becoming a full-time homemaker. She was a loving wife of 47 years, an awesome mother and an adored grandmother. She was the most selfless, wholehearted person that anyone would ever meet. She always put everyone else’s needs and wants before her own. She was well known for her love of cooking, baking and hosting family get togethers for the Holidays. Rita also enjoyed local socializing with Perry and their numerous friends for a Thursday evening get together and Saturday night dinners.

She treasured the clear, night skies, country sunsets and her back yard patio oasis. There, she could be found most mornings and evenings admiring her flowers, plants and hummingbirds. But above all, her title as “Mimi” was her most cherished role. Her grandchildren meant the world to her. She was very close to each one of them and a special part of their lives. Their happiness and companionship was her priority. She seldom missed any of their activities, nor an opportunity to “take em to town” and spoil them in her own way. It is an understatement to say that she will be sorely missed by all.

Survivors include her husband, Perry of Holliday; three sons, Clint Luig and wife, Zandy of Holliday, Ty Luig of Granbury and Josh Luig and wife, Brandi of Fort Worth; sister, Rhonda Steinberger and husband, Charles of Windthorst; sisterin- law, Joyce Moer of Scotland; seven grandchildren, Matthew and wife, Baylee, Madison, Brody, Bennett, Cade, Brynn and Whitt; two great-grandchildren, Braxton and Bowen; her long time “daughter she always wanted”, Geraldine Sunderland and husband, Chris and their children, Elizabeth and Natalie of Plano and Grandmother, Elsa Perla…and last but not least, her loyal and loving dog, Mollie.

She was preceded in death by her brother Dwain Moer on Dec. 31, 2013 and her sister, Debra Hoff on Sept. 24, 2021.

The family suggests memorials to Hospice of Wichita Falls, 4909 Johnson Road, Wichita Falls, Texas 76310 or any Archer County Volunteer Fire Department.
