Walter “Woody” Kuykendall, age 70, of Edmond, Oklahoma passed away Wednesday, Janu. 31, 2024, in Edmond.

Memorial services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 6, at the First Baptist Church of Archer City with Pastor Carter Pirtle of Skellytown, Texas officiating. Burial will follow in the Archer City Cemetery under the direction of Aulds Funeral Home of Archer City.

Woody was born Jan. 19, 1954 to the late Perry Thornton Kuykendall, Sr. and Betty Jean Hinkle Kuykendall in Brevard, North Carolina.

After graduation, Woody honorable served his country in the United States Army.

He married Phyllis Ridenour on June 6, 1978 In Archer City.

Woody was a registered nurse throughout his life. He was a member of Quail Springs Baptist Church in Edmond where he volunteered for the Clinic on the Hill. Woody enjoyed wood working, gardening and traveling; however, his greatest joy was playing with his grandsons.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis; two sons, Chris and Kyle Kuykendall; one daughter, Stephanie Johnson and husband, Brad; sisterin- law, Annelia Ridenour; two grandsons, Caleb and Tyler Johnson; and his nephews, Kevin Ridenour and wife, Ashley, Matt Ridenour, Jonathan Nelson and Jimmy Kuykendall and wife, Mary Anne.

He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Pete on Dec. 22, 1995 and Robert on March 13, 2014; sister, Kathy Nelson on March 16, 2014; brother-inlaw, Rex Ridenour on January 17, 2015; and niece, Jennifer Nelson on Feb. 2, 1990.
