Belcher eyes another trip to state
Coming off back-to-back appearances at the state cross country meet, Windthorst junior Cameron Belcher is aiming once again to make a return trip to Round Rock.
As a freshman, Belcher took 41st at Old Setters Park with a time of 13:35.30 before posting a 57th-place finish last year with a time of 13:10.5. The reigning Region II-2A individual champion won last year’s regional event with a time of 12:30.83.
After medaling twice at the state track meet a year ago, Belcher should be full of confidence when she takes the field this fall.
The Trojanettes will be fielding a full team this year, rather than all competing as individuals. Joining the cross country team this fall is track standout Annikah Frank, Kyah Frank, Maddy Johnson and Savannah Cantu.
On the boys side, Nolan Schreiber and Carson Anderle both return after competing at the regional meet last season. Schreiber finished in the top-30 at No. 28 with a time of 19:05.61 while Anderle logged a No. 86 finish at 23:17.26.
Also running for the Trojans are Bryson Berend, Jesse Cantu and Salvador Cervantes.
“I expect both teams to compete for the district championship and advance to regionals,” Windthorst cross country coach Scotty Lofland said.
The Trojans and Trojanettes begin their season on Thursday, Sept. 1, in Burkburnett.
