Trojanettes' win streak continues
The Windthorst Trojanettes’ run of double-digit victories continued on Friday, April 11 as they dotted Olney to the tune of 14-2.
After going ahead 6-2 through four innings, the Trojanettes poured on five runs in the top of the fifth to blow open their run total to 11.
Catcher Catherine Hoff kicked off the runs with a gutsy home plate swipe, followed by an RBI-double from shortstop Karissa Fillingim to push their lead to 8-2. Fillingim was drove in just a few batters later thanks to a deep single by sophomore Heidi Tackett.
The shifty shortstop wasn’t finished as she hammered a pitch in her next at-bat for a base-clearing, two-run triple in the top of the sixth, showing off her speed again by stealing home base on the very next batter.
That marked the last score for Windthorst as they cruised to the 12-run win over the Lady Cubs.
Fillingim finished the day a perfect 5-for-5 from the dish, pairing that with four runs and four RBIs. The junior also ended the day with two stolen bags.
Chloe Schroeder trailed closely with two RBIs and two hits, while Jalyn Benson matched her with two RBIs and two hits as well.
Starting pitcher Delaney Ashley picked up the win for Windthorst. The freshman gave up just two earned runs on two hits and struck out three in three innings pitched. Benson came in for relief in the fourth and tossed a two hit, zero runs, three strikeout performance.
