“Basketball is pretty much an Owen legacy,” Shannon Owen said.

I’m not sure truer words have ever been spoken. The Owen family is well known around the Archer County community and in gyms all across north Texas. Shannon spent several of his early coaching years in Archer City before moving to Seymour. His oldest son, Tyler, graduated from Holliday in 2009 as a standout on the hardwood before following his father’s footsteps in coaching at Archer City. Now the head coach at Windthorst, Tyler gets an opportunity few others have: a chance to coach his younger brother, Max.

Archer County Sheriff’s Weekly Report

The Sheriff’s Office received 83 Calls for Service during the past seven day period ending Sunday, Dec. 27. On the day of this report there were 25 individuals incarcerated in the Archer County Jail consisting of 23 men and two women.

Archer County COVID-19 cases still rising at high rate

Archer County Judge Randy Jackson reported on Monday, Dec. 28, that the county has seen 100 case increase in total COVID-19 cases in a two-week time period and the county will remain unexempt from GA-29 including a facial covering mandate which was issued by Governor Greg Abbott.

Archer County Sheriff Staci Beesinger will officially enter the world of retirement on Jan. 1, and she is ready to spend more time doing things she enjoys with her husband and grandchildren. A retirement party was held in her honor at the Archer County Sheriff's Office and Jail Thursday, Dec. 17.
