It’s been an impressive start for the county at various cross country meets through the early portion of the season. Team-wise, the Holliday Lady Eagles picked up right where they left off from last season’s state championship.
After being on cruise control for the last three weeks, Holliday was hit with its first real moment of adversity in the first half against Childress. The second-ranked Eagles (4-0) nursed just a one-point lead at the half, up 7-6, before pulling away late for the 2814 win over the Bobcats.
The Archer City Lady Cats ended a 10-match losing streak with a thrilling five-set win over Alvord (24-26, 25-12, 22-25, 25-22, 15-8) on the road on Tuesday. Archer City (4-24) got a whopping 37 digs out of senior Kadence Huffman while Jill Liles had a strong all-around game with seven kills, 18 digs and 20 assists.
Henrietta quarterback Garrett Blevins accounted for 244 yards of total offense and three touchdowns as the Bearcats spoiled Archer City’s homecoming, 42-7, on Friday, Sept. 16.
Windthorst senior quarterback Logan Cope threw for 326 yards and four touchdowns as the Trojans moved into the win column with a 47-16 dismantling of Wheeler on Friday, Sept. 16. After an 0-2 start, the Trojans have positive momentum to move forward with.
