Trojans drop thriller against Albany

Body
Playoff basketball was underway at Breckenridge High School for the Windthorst Trojans and the Albany Lions on Monday, Feb. 19, President’s Day. The Trojans seem to be cursed in the first round, not making it to the Area round since the 2018-2019 season, despite making the playoffs every but one since then. The Lions, however, have a different curse, making it past Bi-District every year since the 2018-2019 season, only to be eliminated in the very next round. The Lions were eager to continue their streak, while the Big Blue of Windthorst were set on breaking the curse.

The rolling Wildcats (4-5) were on a two-game win-streak and aimed at extending the streak to three, giving themselves a tie for third place. The visiting Indians (9-0) already clenched the first-place spot in district and had a win-streak of their own to conserve. The matchup was sure to be a knock-down drag-out fight.

Trojans place third

Body
Defense was the name of the game for the Trojans on Tuesday, Feb. 13, not allowing the visiting Olney Cubs to score more than 10 points in a quarter until the fourth. With Windthorst (4-5) going on a slight skid, losing three of their last four, and just one victory away from clinching the third seed in district, the clash with the Cubs (1-8) was the only obstacle left in the season and a perfect “get-right” game.

Cut back to bear more fruit

Body
My wife grew up in New Mexico and I remember driving through miles and miles of large pecan tree orchards. Pecan trees are in perfect rows for miles. What is interesting is the stages of the trees grouped together. Every year, they will come through and cut some of those trees and prune them back. They do it for one reason, to yield more pecans.
