Memorial Day; There is a plaque in my office that reads “Home of the free, because of the brave.” I think that describes it pretty well. Those of us who have never been there have no idea of the deep fear and horror that comes with war. These souls are forever scarred but they also are witness to acts of heroism, bravery, sacrifice. These deeds would inspire others to become heroes themselves. The finest and fiercest in battle whether it be bombs or bayonets.

As a young parent, I know that it is my desire to be a godly parent to my children. I want to influence my kids in such a way that not only spiritually impacts them but spiritually impacts their kids and grandkids. I believe that this is not only possible, but it is my responsibility. But how does this happen? I think a look at Timothy’s life helps us to see how this is possible.

The 2023-2024 softball season was the year of the youth movement for the three high schools in the county, as neither of the three varsity teams featured more than two seniors in their starting lineup. Despite the lack of experience for a lot of the players, Archer City, Holliday, and Windthorst all made the playoffs, with the former even making it all the way to the Regional Semifinals round. With Archer City graduating two (Brynlee Skelton and Nicole Crouse), Holliday graduating two (Kinley Marek and Kelby Jones), and Windthorst graduating one (Bri Hoff), all three teams will look to fill the holes left by the seniors with more young, hungry players.

New Archer City Mayor Steven Schroeder was sworn in and outgoing Mayor Jake Truette was recognized during the Archer City council meeting on Thursday, May 16. Schroeder was sworn in by City Secretary Kim Whitsitt.

Early voting for the Republican and Democratic run-off elections began Monday, May 20, and come to an end on Friday, May 24. Election Day will be Tuesday, May 28.
