In another installment in the rivalry between the Holliday Lady Eagles and the Henrietta Lady Cats, Henrietta took the first game in the series on Holliday’s home turf on Monday, March 17. Despite several spectacular defensive plays, the Lady Eagles couldn’t make up the ground, losing to the Lady Cats 11-6.

Lady Pirates sink Lady Cats’ comeback

It was tough sailing for the Archer City Lady Cats on Thursday, March 13, falling to Petrolia in a late surge by the Lady Pirates to give the Black and Gold and 0-1 start to district. Petrolia took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first thanks to a two-run homer over the leftfield wall.

Trojanettes steamroll Seymour

The Windthorst Trojanettes opened up district play with a 10-0 thrashing over the Seymour Lady Panthers on Thursday, March 13. The team piled on a combined 11 hits in just five total innings.

OK, here’s the article where your Hometown Gardener is going to shoot himself right directly in the foot. Calendar spring occurs this week. Time to get busy and plant everything, right? Wrong… And in so many cases so very wrong. I’m going to break it down to you according to horticultural science. This is not my personal opinion but the opinion of all educated, cutting edge nurseries and landscape professionals in the southern states. Regular readers grow weary of me preaching this mantra all winter long. However, with spring in the air and some things blooming and pushing out new leaves, the general public is being bombarded by those with the marketing strategy and advertising budgets. Unfortunately this does include most family owned nurseries who do not possess huge advertising budgets but jump on the band wagon with the Megazons because it is lucrative.

Windthorst ISD board approved CFB Local change

The Windthorst ISD school board approved another change to CFB local board policy during its board meeting on Monday, March 17. The board approved a CFB Local amendment in its previous which changes the amount of a fixed asset to be classified from $5,000 to $10,000.

Lady Cats Thanks to a healthy mix of returning upperclassmen and underclassmen making their varsity debut, thirdyear head coach Tyler Owen and his Lady Cats reached 18 wins and even earned their first playoff appearance, both firsts under Coach Owen. Senior guard Adelyn Harvey received firstteam All-District honors, while freshman guard Millie Mayo earned the Newcomer of the Year award.

Eagles in new era under Kress

It is a tough task taking the helm of a varsity baseball team halfway through the season, but head coach Jason Kress was able to perform adequately, leading the Eagles to another district title and a pair of playoff wins. This year, Kress looks to build and add his own coaching style to continue the long baseball tradition that Holliday is known for.
