Pursuing Christ For A Lifetime

Body
Ever since I became a believer at the age of 19, I had this burning desire to know God more. I spent most of my 20’s finding ways to deepen my faith through intense study of God’s Word. And the older I’ve gotten, the more I realize how much I want to keep that fire going. Of course, the different seasons of our lives will dictate what that pursuit of God looks like. My pursuit of God won’t look the same as a single 20 year old as I am now a married 30 year old with a son. But how do we cultivate a lifetime pursuit of knowing Jesus? Is the answer simple? Read our Bibles and pray more. I think the answer is simple but I also believe that simple isn’t always easy. As you read this, I wonder if you find yourself where I find myself at times? At a new stage of life and trying to throw more logs on this burning desire to know God more. Here are two things that I have found help me in my pursuit of Christ: 1. Challenge Yourself to Go Deeper While you can read your Bible daily, that doesn’t necessarily mean you are deepening your pursuit of knowing Christ. I find that if I stop and reflect on what I am reading that it helps me to grow. How often have you stopped while reading the story of Joseph to see God’s sovereignty throughout the whole story? In those moments I find that it is helpful for me to look back at my life and see where God’s sovereignty has been crystal clear. When we read the stories we have heard before, we have a tendency to shut our minds off rather than pressing deeper. When you read those stories, cut that knife deeper by thinking of the ways that passage reveals to us more about the character of God. Challenge yourself to go deeper by asking good and difficult questions.

The fact can be anything from growing season, to cooking method, to Texas national production ranking, to plant diseases.
