Holliday’s Hannah Spears broke her school record in the mile at the Race of Champions in San Antonio this weekend. Spears took home the bronze medal with a time of 4:57.

Lady Cats bow out against Rio Vista

Archer City (20-11-1) was unable to come up with a timely hit as the Lady Cats fell in a one-game playoff to Rio Vista, 2-1, in the area round on Saturday, May 8, in Mineral Wells. Starting pitcher Jill Liles (16- 10) kept the Lady Eagles off balance all night, surrendering just two runs (one earned) on three hits and three walks while striking out a pair.

2 gold medals no sweat for Spears

The first event of the day at 9 a.m. in the morning at the 2021 UIL State Track and Field Championships last Thursday, May 6, was the Girls 3A 3200 Meter Run. Holliday High School had two qualifiers for the event, junior Hannah Spears and sophomore Jaycee Lyons. Both were also qualifiers in the 1600 Meter Run which was the next to last race later in the evening at Mike A. Myers Stadium on the University of Texas campus in Austin.

Holliday (28-3) manufactured just enough offense in game one to come away with a hard-fought 3-2 win before tossing a combined one-hitter in a 12-0 rout in game two to knock out Peaster in bi-district.

Tara Tackett was at her best this weekend in Windthorst’s sweep of Tolar in the area round. The sophomore right-hander allowed two runs on 10 hits with five walks and five strikeouts over 14.0 innings of work to punch the Trojanettes ticket to the regional quarterfinals.
