Jose Luis Cabrera, also known as Al, passed away Saturday, May 29, peacefully in his sleep where he was found deceased by his wife in their home in Jacksboro. He was born on July 12, 1966, in Fort Worth, to his father, Arturo Cabrera, who’s been deceased since he was 6 years old, and his mother who is still with us today, Armandina Patino.
Archer County News' Diamond Dozen part one

After a tremendous year on baseball and softball diamond for all three Archer County schools, I felt these athletes deserved a little extra recognition. With that said, I’m debuting the Archer County News Diamond Dozen. Every one of these athletes and their teammates deserve much more recognition and praise than I can give them. We had a great season with all three schools making the playoffs in both baseball and softball and I can’t wait to see what next year brings. Historic season comes to an end in state semifinals

As the famous saying goes, ‘all good things must come to an end.’
The Lady Eagles’ historic postseason run, which included the team’s first trip to the UIL State Softball Tournament in Austin, ended in the state semifinals. Holliday fell to Diboll 9-3 on Wednesday, June 2, at Red and Charline McCombs Field.
Cousins headed back to Texas Water Safari race

After successfully completing the 2019 Texas Water Safari, cousins Patrick and Matt “Stumpy” Schreiber have enlisted the help of cousins Dan Schreiber and Sean Hoff to tackle the 2021 challenge as a four-man team.
75th Archer County Rodeo just around the corner

The Archer County Rodeo started in 1945, so last year would have been the 75th anniversary of the event. Due to concerns about safety in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, the rodeo association decided to cancel the June 2020 event.

The Archer County News has welcomed Vanessa Parkey as its new advertising sales representative as it continues towards its goal of a larger community focused newspaper. Parkey grew up in Devine, graduated from Tarleton State University and moved to Archer County with her husband David in 1997.

Ellis named MSU Texas Redwine Presidential Scholar

Midwestern State University has named Holliday High School graduate Colten Ellis as one of its Redwine Presidential Scholars. He will receive $28,000 over four years of study at MSU Texas in Wichita Falls.
