Anton “Tony” Henry Berend, 87, of Vinita, passed away May 29, surrounded with love at Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa. He was born April 1, 1935, in Windthorst to Anton and Eleanor Berend. Tony was one of 13 children. He graduated from Windthorst High School and after high school he trained to be a Welder.

ACISD Cheerleading Annual Two Man Scramble

The ACISD Cheerleading Annual Two Man Scramble was held at the Archer City Country Club on Friday, June 10. Seventeen teams participated, 46 holesponsors, 10 high school cheerleaders and eight junior high cheerleaders. Money from the event helps pay for camp, uniforms, camp wear, shoes and supplies for pep rallies and games. TOP: Jon Cowan and Frank Murray placed first at the two man scramble. The annual Round Timber Reunion will be held at the Round Timber Cemetery on Sunday, June 26, 2022, at the cemetery pavilion. The Round Timber Cemetery Association (RTCA) meeting will begin at 11:30 a.m.

No more potholes in Archer County?

“We have a lot of oil trucks running through our county,” says Wade Scarbrough (Commissioner, Precinct 1), “and many of these now heavily trafficked roads were only intended for tractors and light agricultural traffic. Now with not only the oil trucks, but also an increasing population and new developments, we’ve been looking for something better.”

Social media is where a person can express their true thoughts, opinion, and share life experience. This past week one person on one of our local gardening pages stated the obvious fact their tomatoes were flowering, looked OK, but not setting fruit. “What should I be doing?” The immediate popular response was, “My my Granny used to give them a vigorous shake, hit them with the broom, flyswatter, or stick, etc.” While this physical abuse was quickly noticed by young grandchildren, what was not noticed was when she was doing this and why.
