From the Vault: Lady Cats win 2004 State Championship

Last Thursday morning in Austin at the Frank Erwin Center, the Archer City Lady Cats won the Class A Division 1 State Championship as Seniors Brittni Burks and Magan Moore took charge in the 4th quarter. Burks, the anchor in the paint, converted 16 free throw attempts into 12 points and was high scorer with 18 points. Moore, named the game’s MVP, had 16, with 10 coming at crunch time in the final stanza. Both seniors were named to the 2004 UIL Girls All-Tournament Team for Class A.

Ranked Nocona downs Windthorst

The Windthorst Trojanettes travelled to Nocona to face the top-ranked Lady Indians in district play on Friday, Feb. 2. The 7-1 Trojanettes looked to avenge their only district defeat that came at the hands of the undefeated Lady Indians just a few weeks prior, while Nocona looked to further distance themselves from the rest of the competition in district.

Trojans pound Petrolia

The Windthorst Trojans faced off against the visiting Petrolia Pirates on Tuesday, Jan 30. A win for the Trojans meant keeping pace with the second-place Seymour Panthers in district, while a Pirate victory would help maintain their fourth-place rank in district. Despite a fivepoint lead by Petrolia at halftime, Windthorst awakened in the second half, overcoming the Pirates’ lead, and ending the game with a 52-35 victory.

The biennial University Interscholastic League reclassification and realignment for the 2024-25 and 2025-26 school years was released on Thurs., Feb. 1 at 9 a.m. The new alignments, established by enrollment figures submitted to the UIL by its member schools in October, will serve as the football districts for the next two school years.

Trojans unable to conquer Indians

The Windthorst Trojans voyaged to the home of the Nocona Indians to face off in district basketball on Friday, Feb. 2. The 4-2 Trojans were coming off a three-game win streak and looked to keep the race for second place in district alive, while the undefeated Indians intended to continue their unbeaten streak and remain at the top of the food chain.

Depleted Lady Cats fall to Olney

The Archer City Lady Cats hosted the Olney Lady Cubs in district action on Tuesday, Jan. 30. With both teams still in the race for the fourthplace spot and just a few games left, a loss all but seals the deal on either team’s playoff hopes.
