The Holliday ISD school board continued discussions about which bond project to put on hold during its board meeting Monday, Oct. 7.

Sonya Aliese Huffman McCord, 56, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend passed away Thursday, Oct. 3, 2024, after a hard fought battle and is now victorious. A beautiful angel is now resting in the arms of Jesus, healed.

Bobbie Carolyn (Gray) Curry, 71, of Wichita Falls passed away Oct. 4, 2024, at Hospice of Wichita Falls after defeating breast cancer, but later battling metastatic stomach cancer.

The Archer Public Library is excited to announce an update to the e-book services provided through the E-Read Texas Program at the Texas State Library and Archives Commission. Starting October 1st, we will transition from the e-book platform SimplyE to the new e-book platform Boundless. This change will not affect Libby. Boundless offers many new features, including reading achievement badges, larger checkout limits, and social sharing features. With Boundless and Libby, library patrons can check out e-books and audiobooks for free, enabling them to enjoy the library on the go, adjust the font size of their favorite books with a touch, or listen to books while multitasking. The Sheriff’s Office received 310 calls for service these past two weeks. As this report is being written there are 32 inmates 5 being female in the Archer County Jail.

The Holliday Lady Eagle’s utter devastation through the district continued on Tuesday, October 1 and Friday, October 4 as they swept the City View Lady Mustangs and the Jacksboro Tigerettes to remain undefeated in district play.

The Windthorst Trojanettes handedly obtained their first district win of the season on Tuesday, Oct. 1, demolishing the Petrolia Lady Pirates in a 3-0 sweep at home.

The Windthorst Trojanettes and the Archer City Lady Cats have a storied rivalry on the volleyball court, including several heavyweight bouts, but the Big Blue has had the upper hand as of late, winning the last four meeting between the two. On Saturday, Oct. 5, the Lady Cats had their first opportunity to turn their fortunes around as they hosted the Trojanettes in the duo’s first matchup of the year.
