The Sheriff’s Office has received 622 calls for service these past three weeks. As this report is being written there are 23 inmates 4 being female in the Archer County Jail.

The city of Holliday is planning for the departure of two public servants as City Secretary Gerri Mc-Donald prepares for retirement and city councilman Tony McDonald has resigned. Gerri is set to retire from the city secretary position, a position she has held since May 2018, at the end of the year.

Aulds Classic Cars, has unveiled plans for ongoing construction at 105 E. Main Street, a historic building nestled between the car collection and the Royal Theater in Archer City.

It was a competitive season for the three Archer County high school football teams this season. It was expected to be a rebuild year for the Archer City Wildcats, and although they finished the season with a 1-9 record, the team that was filled with first-year starters and only several returning starters flashed their talents numerous times throughout the season.

Archer County had three teams and 22 total athletes compete at the UIL Cross Country State Championships this year. Seven of those runners finished in the top-20 in their respective races.

Dr. Blaine Smith Purcell passed away from heart failure on Nov. 29, 2025. Born on Aug. 11, 1948, in Waco, he was the oldest child of Graham and Betty Purcell. He lived in Wichita Falls until he was a teenager, when the family moved to Mount Vernon, Virginia.

In Luke 1:1-10 scripture, we have Zechariah, the Priest of Abijah Temple, who is married to Elizabeth, a descendant of Aaron. Talk about role models! These two were God-fearing, righteous, and lived strictly by the Jewish law. Their Practices were all in honor of God. Zechariah and Elizabeth were getting along in years. Now, for a little context in Zechariah’s time, there were thousands of priests. From birth, every descendant of Aaron was acknowledged as a priest. Zechariah was part of the Abijah division of priests. There were so many priests that they took shifts. About twice a year, they would have a one-week shift.
