Fidelis Joseph (Joe) Loran, 74, passed away May 28, 2026 in Wichita Falls. He was born June 23, 1951, in Knox City, Texas to Fidelis Jacob and Agnes Redder Loran. Joe grew up in Rhineland, graduated from Munday High School, Cisco Junior College and the University of Arkansas Fayetteville with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture (animal science). He took additional studies in science and chemistry at Midwestern State University.

Archer City Receives CPI Increase for AMR Ambulance Contract

The Archer City Council received the annual Consumer Price Index (CPI) adjustment for its ambulance service contract with American Medical Response (AMR) during its meeting on Thursday, May 28. AMR representative Digger Hoffman presented the proposed increase, which will raise the annual contract cost by 2.54%, or just over $13,000, bringing the total contract value to more than $526,000 per year.

Holliday High School Claims UIL Academic State Championship

Holliday High School is once again a state champion. Just a few days after their Boys’ State Track meet championship, the Eagles and Lady Eagles that make up the Academic Team won the Class 3A Academic State Championship, beating out second-place Gladewater Sabine by 4.5 points. This marks their seventh academic state title in school history.
