The Archer City Lady Cats overcame a slow start in a four-set win over Burkburnett (22-25, 25-18, 25-23, 25-23) on Friday, Sept. 18, to close out their non-district slate with a 7-4 mark.

After starting slowly in each of their first three games to open the season, Holliday (3-1) needed to find something to buck the trend in its homecoming matchup with Bells. The Eagles turned to their ground game, churning out yard after yard and first down after first down en-route to a 34-21 win over the Panthers, including 308 yards rushing.

Holliday ISD Senior Brittany James was named the 2020 Homecoming Queen prior to the game against Bells Friday, Sept. 18.

In the first half of its three non-district matchups this season, the Holliday Eagles have been outscored by their opponents 59-7. Those are not the sort of numbers you expect from a team with a winning record, but the Eagles have made plays when it counted.

In what felt like an ol’ west shootout, the Wildcats and Trojans lived up to the billing of the 11-Mile War. In one corner was Windthorst riding high on winning 11-straight against Archer City dating back to 2008 and ranked No. 4 in the state; in the other were the up-and-coming Wildcats looking to prove they belong.

Junior quarterback Ty Bates scored six touchdowns and the Wildcats defense forced seven turnovers in a 60-7 rout of Haskell in Archer City’s season-opener on Friday, Sept. 4, at Wildcat Stadium.

Windthorst (2-0) was near perfect in its homecoming rout of DeLeon (0-2). The Trojans rolled up 502 yards of offense in a 55-7 blowout of the Bearcats.

Archer City was unable to hold on to an early twoset lead in a five-set loss to Iowa Park on Saturday, Sept. 5, falling 3-2 (29-27, 29-27, 19-25, 16-25, 9-15).
